I’m Ashriitha, this year’s Communication Coordinator for Green Initiative! Our newsletters will be going out every other Monday, so here’s the first one to start us off :)

About Green Initiative:

If it’s been a while since you’ve heard of us, we are a student organization devoted to sustainability on campus and in the Birmingham community! Our mission is simple:

• Education: raise environmental awareness

• Activism: advocate for environmentally-friendly policies

• Service: provide sustainability-related volunteer opportunities

We work closely with other sustainability programs and organizations on campus such as:

• UAB Sustainability (@uab_sustainability): UAB facilities division that partners across campus to develop policies to work towards our Strategic Plan for 2025

• USGA Sustainability (@uab_usga): USGA cabinet coordinators and sustainability caucus which further campus policies/initiatives

• UAB Solar House (@uabsolarhouse): a self-sustaining, net-positive solar home that was built for the 2017 National Solar Decathlon and now represents a model of sustainable living in all aspects!

• Green Thumb (@uabgreenthumb): the student org that maintains urban gardening initiatives on campus and aims to improve sustainable efforts through education!

• Rooted (@rooted_uab): the student org for plant-loving individuals <3

What’s the point of this newsletter?

Whether or not you can make it to the events we host this year, our goal is to keep you in the loop and create this unique platform where we work together to improve sustainability on campus and beyond.
